Improved Pillager Outpost: Multi-Story Pillager Towers

This add-on reworks the standard pillager outpost into a towering multi-level structure, preserving vanilla loot and enemy behavior while dramatically enhancing exploration. Available as both a mod and a datapack, it integrates cleanly into existing worlds without altering core game balance. The package supports Minecraft 1.16.5 and all later releases, with compatibility across Forge, NeoForge, Fabric (requires Fabric API), and Quilt (requires QSL) loaders.

What the Add-On Changes

Instead of the default flat outpost, you get a tall, multi-story tower with internal rooms, vertical pathways, and a more imposing silhouette. The layout creates new tactical challenges during raids, especially in low-light conditions. Loot tables remain untouched, but the increased number of chests and the tower’s size naturally raise your chances of gathering useful gear in a single sweep. All enemies stay vanilla—no custom AI or overpowered drops.

Four Visual Variants

To keep the structure fresh across different seeds, the author included four appearance modes. They do not affect combat mechanics but strongly influence the atmosphere of each biome:

  • Normal – a well-maintained, active-looking fortress.
  • Overgrown – covered in vines and foliage, as if slowly reclaimed by nature.
  • Damaged – shows cracks, missing blocks, and signs of past battles.
  • Overgrown Damaged – a rugged mix of decay and overgrowth, perfect for survival-themed builds.

Active and Inactive Tower Tops

Each tower can spawn with a lit signal fire (active) or an extinguished one (inactive). An active top serves as a distant landmark, while an inactive one looks less threatening. This detail helps you scout from afar before engaging, especially on servers with extended render distance.

How to Install

You can obtain the files from CurseForge or Modrinth by searching for "Improved Pillager Outpost: Multi-Story Pillager Towers". Choose the version that matches your game and loader.

Mod Installation

For Forge or NeoForge, place the downloaded .jar file into your .minecraft/mods folder and launch the game. For Fabric or Quilt, ensure Fabric API (or QSL) is already installed, then add the mod jar to the same mods directory. The launcher will handle the rest.

Datapack Installation

If you prefer a datapack, drop the archive into .minecraft/saves/YourWorldName/datapacks. Enter the world and run /reload if you added it while the game was open. The structure will generate in newly explored chunks.

Compatibility and Server Use

This add-on is built for Minecraft 1.16.5 and above, and it works smoothly on multiplayer servers. Because it only modifies structure generation, it rarely conflicts with other mods. Always back up your world before updating to a new minor game version, as structure tags can shift between releases.
